Itawamba County Release Meanings
A release from the Itawamba County Detention Center means that one episode of physical custody at that building ended. It does not always mean the person walked into the community with no further legal restraint. Someone may post bond, receive credit for time served, finish a county sentence, move to probation, or leave after a dismissal or acquittal. The jail can also transfer a person to the Mississippi Department of Corrections, another county, a federal custodian, or immigration custody. The destination and legal authority matter as much as the departure date.
That distinction explains why a name drops off the active Tiger roster. The active view is meant to show the people the jail currently lists in custody. It is not a permanent history. The official recently released view preserves a short lead, while the administrative release record supplies the exact time, authority, and destination. Court records explain what happened in the case. MDOC, BOP, or ICE records take over when a different custodian received the person.
A few terms help separate the paths:
- Bond
- Release from the jail while the criminal case remains open under court-set terms.
- Time served
- Credit that satisfies the custodial part of a sentence, though other court duties may remain.
- Parole
- Conditional early release granted by the Mississippi State Parole Board after eligibility review.
- Probation
- A court-ordered sentence or sentence component served in the community under supervision.
- Discharge
- The formal end of the custody or supervision status identified in the issuing agency's record.
Itawamba County Release Types
The same “released” feed label can sit over very different outcomes. The Tiger detail is booking-centered and may show a scheduled release field without the final reason. A jail record and the relevant court or receiving agency resolve that gap.
| Type | Meaning | Next record to check |
|---|---|---|
| Bond | Physical jail custody ends while the charge continues. | Justice Court or Circuit Court bond and docket record |
| Time served or sentence end | The ordered jail term has been credited or completed. | Judgment, commitment, jail computation, and release record |
| Probation or parole | The person is in the community but may remain supervised. | Sentencing order, Parole Board action, and MDOC Community Corrections |
| Dismissal or acquittal | The court resolved the charge without a conviction on that matter. | Signed order or court docket |
| Transfer or detainer | Itawamba custody ended because another agency received the person. | Destination field plus the receiving custodian's record |
A disappearance from the live roster cannot identify one of these outcomes. Even a recent-release entry proves only that the jail classified the booking as released within its displayed window. Confirmation requires the record that belongs to that particular release path.
Itawamba County Release Record Fields
A useful Itawamba County release record ties the person, booking, authority, and destination together. The public Tiger detail helps identify the correct custody event, but the county administrative record is needed for a complete account. Ask for these fields rather than requesting a broad investigative file.
| Field | What it establishes |
|---|---|
| Name, aliases, and date of birth | The identity tied to the booking |
| Booking number and admission time | The exact Itawamba custody episode |
| Charges or hold authority | Why the jail accepted custody |
| Actual departure date and time | When physical Itawamba custody ended |
| Release type and authorizing agency | The legal basis for the departure |
| Destination or receiving custodian | Community release, transfer, or detainer handoff |
| Property receipt and booking photo | Administrative records connected to release and booking |
The Tiger list itself displays a name, gender, and age. Its detail can add the booking photograph, booking number and date, primary offense, arresting agency, descriptors, charge type, bond, fine, and “Schedule Release Date.” Research found a released detail with that scheduled field marked N/A. It must not be restated as an actual departure time.
Note: The public 72-hour display window does not define how long the county, court, MDOC, or another custodian keeps its underlying records.
Request Itawamba County Release Records
Itawamba County publishes a Public Records Policy, Procedures and Fee Schedule through the Chancery Clerk. The official route accepts mail, hand delivery, email, and fax. The sheriff may hold the jail record, but the county form provides the published routing point. Keep the request narrow and ask for electronic copies plus a cost estimate.
- Identify the person with full name, aliases, date of birth, and booking number if known.
- Give the booking or admission date and a narrow date range for the departure.
- Ask for the administrative booking and release record, including actual release time, authority, type, and destination.
- Request the booking photograph and property receipt only if those records are needed.
- Ask the custodian to redact exempt material and produce the nonexempt remainder with any denial tied to a specific exemption.

The county procedure states that requests receive a response within seven days. The published fee schedule must be checked before quoting a charge. Separate sheriff prices for an accident or incident report and fingerprints are not proven release-record or photo fees, so ask for an estimate before work begins.
Itawamba Release Records Law
The Mississippi Public Records Act, Miss. Code §§ 25-61-1 and following, opens public records subject to exemptions and agency procedures. Section 25-61-5 sets timing rules. An adopted procedure may allow up to seven working days for production or denial. If production cannot occur by then, the agency gives a particular written reason, and the outside limit is generally fourteen working days without an agreement. Section 25-61-7 permits actual costs and prepayment.
Ask for the administrative release record, not a full investigative file. If some material is exempt, request redaction and the segregable public remainder.
Juvenile, sealed, expunged, victim-protected, and investigatory material can be restricted. An expungement under applicable Mississippi law changes record treatment according to the order and statute. It should not be described as erasing every old copy. A certified order belongs with a correction request to the office that created the record.
Which Itawamba Court Confirms Release?
Itawamba Justice Court hears misdemeanor matters and preliminary hearings, sets bond, and issues warrants within its jurisdiction. The Circuit Clerk keeps Circuit and County Court docket papers, including felony pleas, indictments, judgments, sentences, and lower-court appeals. A bond amount in Tiger does not prove that bond caused the release. Likewise, a jail departure does not prove that the charge was dismissed.
Match the booking's arresting agency and charge to the right case. Then read the jail record beside the court order. The court supplies legal authority and case outcome, while the jail supplies the physical departure and destination. Processing time or another hold can explain why an order date and a door-release time differ.
Older Itawamba Release Records
WCBI's report on the former county jail described aging portions of a 32-bed building and out-of-county placement in Tishomingo County before the newer justice complex. That history can explain an unfamiliar facility or former address on an older Itawamba County release record.
The confinement site and prosecuting county can differ. Treat the facility as custodian of its physical release log, then use the arresting agency and court to trace the case. A record naming Tishomingo or another county does not by itself mean the Itawamba case ended there.
Itawamba Releases for Other Counties
Reports about the newer complex describe Lee County overflow held in Itawamba, and a Tiger detail reviewed during research listed Lee County as the arresting agency. For such a booking, departure from the Itawamba building might mean transport back to Lee County instead of release to the community.
Record the Arresting Agency field before calling. Ask the Itawamba jail whether the person left for the community or another custodian, then confirm the receiving agency's status. The safest statement names each layer: Itawamba physical custody ended, another agency received custody, or all known physical custody ended.
Find Itawamba County Released Inmates
Begin with the custody type and likely time frame. A recent county release has one official online lead. An older county event needs the jail record and court file. A state sentence belongs in MDOC. Federal and immigration custody have separate locators. Follow this order:
- Check Tiger's “Released Last 72hrs” for a recent Itawamba jail booking and open the correct detail.
- Compare the active roster. A person still shown there has not been presented by the county system as released.
- Record the booking number, arresting agency, booking date, charge data, and exact scheduled-date label.
- Call the jail or request its release record to determine actual time, authority, and destination.
- Check Justice Court or the Circuit Clerk for the order and disposition.
- If the record shows a transfer, continue with MDOC, BOP, ICE, another county, or the named custodian.
A missing name is not proof of release. It can reflect the short display window, a spelling variation, another facility, a transfer, or a corrected booking.
The Itawamba County 24-hour release page explains why the county's verified tool is a 72-hour feed rather than a certified one-day list.
Itawamba County Recent Releases
The official Tiger Released Last 72hrs view is linked through the Sheriff's official site. It lists name, gender, and age. A click opens the richer booking detail. No separate official 24-hour filter, public archive, stated refresh interval, or sheriff mobile app was verified.
The Booked Last 72hrs view is different. It reports recent intake, not release. The active roster also serves another purpose: it indicates displayed current custody. Neither should be used as a substitute for the released feed.
The county's Sheriff page shows the local facility and roster access.
The official page is the source for the detention center contact and the embedded Tiger route used to start a release check.
MDOC Search for Itawamba Releases
The Mississippi Department of Corrections inmate search covers MDOC-committed people, not a local bond-out with no state commitment. Search by first name, last name, or MDOC ID. The ID is best when known. Open a match and compare birth date, physical traits, offense, county of conviction, and MDOC number before relying on it.
| Search field | Use | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| First name | Name search | Spelling and aliases may affect results |
| Last name | Name search | Confirm suffixes and identity fields |
| MDOC ID | Direct identifier search | Must belong to the intended person |
| Location and unit | Status or placement clue | Not always a plain “released” label |
| Tentative Release Date | Current public projection | Not proof that release occurred |
The official MDOC search screen shows the fields used for a state release lookup.
A detail can also show a photograph, entry and location-change dates, sentence data, county of conviction, and the exact “Tentative Release Date” label. Ask MDOC Records for the actual certificate or computation when those clues remain unclear.
Itawamba Release Supervision Checks
A person may leave a cell yet remain under state control. MDOC's parolee search and the Itawamba Probation & Parole Office can help confirm community supervision. Parole follows a State Parole Board action. Probation follows a court sentence. Earned Release Supervision, or ERS, is an MDOC status in which an eligible person remains under MDOC jurisdiction while outside the facility.
Use the Board for a parole decision, MDOC Records for sentence computation and status, and Community Corrections for the assigned supervision office. Office assignment can follow residence or an interstate move, so an Itawamba conviction does not guarantee local supervision. More detail appears on the Itawamba County parole and probation page.
Travel After an Itawamba Release
County bond release and MDOC discharge have different logistics. No published Itawamba jail rule was found for release time, exit door, property pickup, or family waiting space. Call the detention center for those local details rather than applying another county's policy.
For an MDOC discharge, the MDOC release FAQ says the case manager verifies travel plans. MDOC may purchase requested bus travel to the destination or nearest city, but not travel out of state. Processing may take 30 to 45 days and requires a discharge certificate. A tentative date is therefore not a pickup time.
Federal and ICE Release Checks
For a federal sentence, search the BOP Inmate Locator by register number or name. A past release date with “RELEASED” or no institution means BOP custody ended. It does not rule out supervision or a detainer. Federal pretrial custody may be handled by the U.S. Marshals Service in a local contract jail, and USMS has no public historical locator. The federal docket and actual jail then control.
ICE's Online Detainee Locator System covers current detainees and qualifying people released from ICE custody during the prior 60 days. Search with an A-number and country of birth when possible, or exact biographical data. A transfer from Itawamba to ICE is not community release. After the public window expires, absence from ODLS proves nothing about current freedom.
Mississippi SAVIN through VINELink is a notification route for MDOC and participating county facilities, but Itawamba participation must be checked in the live system. A transfer alert should be read as a transfer, not rewritten as release.
Where Itawamba Release Records Appear
No single locator covers every Itawamba County release. Match the source to the custody that ended.
| Situation | First lead | Strong confirmation |
|---|---|---|
| Still displayed in county custody | Tiger Active Roster | Detention center |
| Recent county departure | Tiger Released Last 72hrs | Jail release record and court order |
| Older county departure | Court docket and records request | Release log or booking packet |
| State prisoner or supervised person | MDOC inmate and parolee searches | MDOC certificate, computation, or Board action |
| Federal BOP custody | BOP locator | BOP release notice and federal docket |
| ICE custody | ICE ODLS within its scope | ICE or ERO record |
Can a court order alone prove the door time? No. It proves legal action. The jail record documents physical processing, and another hold may delay or redirect the departure.
Itawamba County Release Systems
The Facility Map includes the local jail plus four systems that may control later custody or supervision. Only the detention center is the county jail. No MDOC prison, BOP prison, or ICE detention center was verified inside Itawamba County.
- Itawamba County Detention Center: county booking, recent release, transfer, and administrative release records.
- Itawamba Probation & Parole Office: local MDOC Community Corrections contact, not a jail or release list.
- Mississippi Department of Corrections institutions: state sentence, tentative date, parole, ERS, and discharge records.
- Federal Bureau of Prisons / U.S. Marshals custody: federal locator, docket, and custodian routes.
- ICE custody: current and short-window immigration custody lookup.
Each source answers one layer. A complete check may require the physical jail, the court, and a receiving agency, but their records should not be blended into one unsupported claim.
